NEWS: The Blue Room Theatre announces first two shows of S1 2017

With barely a moment to breathe after another jam-packed, highly-acclaimed Summer Nights season at FRINGE WORLD 2017, the team at The Blue Room are ready to unleash another round of indie theatre goodness on the public with the announcement of the first two shows of the April-July: So You Think You’re Charlie Smith from sandpaperplane and Emma Mary Hall’s Ode to Man. Here’s a brief look at both shows.
So You Think You’re Charlie Smith | sandpaperplane | 11 – 29 April | 7pm
sandpaperplane are the crew behind the hit comedy 34,000 Forks (see our review here) from Summer Nights 2016, with Jackson Used and Ben Thomas once again taking co-writing credit on this show. They promise a dark exploration of reality television, identity, purpose and escapism. “So You Think You’re Charlie Smith interrogates the nature of reality in an unreal world. Barriers between content and person come crashing down as three performers struggle to resist the manipulation of their producers. Then again, it could all just be part of the show.”
Ode to Man | Emma Mary Hall | 18 April – 6 May | 8:30pm
Writer/performer Emma Mary Hall and director Prue Clark brought their acclaimed and award-winning collaboration We May Have to Choose (see our review here) to FRINGE WORLD 2016. They return to Perth with a follow up show, Ode to Man, a “series of vignettes exploring the end of men in an attempt to understand how one woman’s broken heart links to the big stuff: global economic change, biological inequity, and mortality.” Here’s a link to Hall speaking to Jennie Lenman at Radio Adelaide about the piece (which was in development) from March of last year.
Tickets for these shows are available from 9am today, Wednesday 8 March at The Blue Room website here. The full April-July 2017 program, comprised of six new works and a series of play readings, will be officially announced on Wednesday 22 March. Tickets to the remaining shows will go on sale on this date.
