REVIEW: Odd Socks | The Cutting Room Floor

Odd Socks Review by Cicely Binford 1.2.2017 The Cutting Room Floor expands their repertoire this Fringe season with a new creation by performer/deviser Megan Hollier and director/devisor Gemma Hall in Odd Socks. This short and sweet two-hander is playing at the ‘Engine Room’ at the State Theatre Centre, and features Megan Hollier as Mia and George Ashforth as Charles. Odd Socks doesn’t aim to push the boundaries of theatrical convention – in fact it stays well within conventional territory – but let’s remember that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. We could even argue that conventional theatre is a refreshing change from the current norm; … Continue reading REVIEW: Odd Socks | The Cutting Room Floor

RECAP: Home Open – An Evening of GREEN | The Cutting Room Floor

This week The Cutting Room Floor and the Greens WA told us ’bout the birds and the bees and the flowers and the trees at a thing called Home Open. TCRF’s periodical lounge room shenanigans went eco-and-politico-friendly with a special night curated by Senator Scott Ludlam and the WA Greens party that featured artists, candidates and politicians all together under one roof. It was an intimate night of fun, warmth, and consciousness-raising in a West Perth home absolutely teeming with books and art, all in the name of environmental and social justice. For those unfamiliar with TCRF’s Home Open events, it’s something I might … Continue reading RECAP: Home Open – An Evening of GREEN | The Cutting Room Floor

REVIEW: What’s Love Got To Do With It? | TCRF

In her 80s hit song, Tina Turner asks ‘who needs a heart when a heart can be broken?’ This is something that anyone who’s ever been burned by love would just really like to know. Who hasn’t been burned by love in some form or fashion, but does that mean we’d want to kill love off completely with a pill? This is the premise of The Cutting Room Floor‘s latest offering at The Blue Room this month, and they’re having a good time working out an answer to Ms. Turner’s eternal question for us. Devised by a group of WAAPA Bachelor of … Continue reading REVIEW: What’s Love Got To Do With It? | TCRF

REVIEW: Blue Cow | The War on Food

By some quirky coincidence, we’ve found ourselves having a Two For Tuesday with two shows that have themes involving contamination in one way or another. Alice Mary Cooper’s Blue Cow at The Blue Room “explores what it means to be contaminated,” while The Cutting Room Floor’s War on Food features a plot line about produce being contaminated to control the market. Let’s take a closer look at both. Blue Cow | Alice Mary Cooper After a very successful visit to Fringe World last year with her solo show Waves, Alice Mary Cooper returns with another solo show, Blue Cow, this time setting up shop in The Blue … Continue reading REVIEW: Blue Cow | The War on Food

REVIEW: On the Face of Things | Halina | Talk Dirty to Me

We venture out of the Blue Room/PICA Summer Nights precinct and into the outer Fringes of Perth for a 3-show Saturday binge.
