Hey folks, I’m Cicely Binford, the Texan expat theatre nerd behind Perth Arts Live. I started this website way back in 2013, first as a personal archive of the reviews that I wrote for other publications and media outlets (Australian Stage Online, AussieTheatre, X-Press, Broadway World, The Post Newspaper, The West Australian, and Perth Culture), and then eventually as the sole home for my arts writing.
I am continually honoured and humbled to play my part in Boorloo’s performing arts sector as a writer and occasional maker, and I am so proud of and awed by the sector’s resilience, courage, ingenuity, and sense of community.
Sitting in the dark with a room full of friends and strangers watching live performance – moved to tears, cackling wildly, and covered in goosebumps – to me, this is the perfect state of being.
